Fuck PeTA and Their "Violence Against Women Sells" Mantra (Also, They're Racist) by Alex Snider

I know it's not any surprise that PeTA has come up with yet another offensive campaign that demeans women in the name of animal rights but I can't resists calling attention to this video that overtly promotes domestic violence as one of the benefits of a vegan diet.

Don't Watch the Grammys by Alex Snider

Three years ago, Chris Brown attacked his then-girlfriend Rihanna the night before the Grammys (where they were both set to perform) putting her in the hospital and him on five years of probation for assault. Brown has since made a comeback (although it is debatable whether he ever suffered any real repercussions, certainly he has always had a lot of vocal support and has shown little public contrition) with two albums (debuting at #7 and #1) and being named Billboard's Artist of the Year in 2011.

A Win for Battered Woman Defense by Alex Snider

Barbara Sheehan of Queens was found not guilty of killing her husband, a former police sergeant. She had survived 24 years of physical and emotional abuse before shooting him 11 times. The verdict is monumental for battered woman defense and for domestic abuse activists in general when so often domestic abuse is ignored or normalized. Hopefully it's a sign of changing times and attitudes.

Domestic Violence as Nature's Fidelity? No Fucking Way by Alex Snider

SO MUCH RAGE and sadness. Thanks Twitter, for bringing me such news as: "Ten Percent of D.C. 8th Graders Have Considered, Attempted Suicide" and "Roman Polanski honoured at Zurich film fest" and apparently Nancy Grace had some kind of nipple slip? On Dancing With the Stars? Apparently Nancy Grace is on Dancing With the Stars? Why humanity? Why are we so terrible? And then there was this solid little gem brought to my feed by New Scientist: "This is going to be controversial: Domestic violence gets an evolutionary explanation" with a link to this article which sure enough denotes how one psychology professor believes male on female partner violence can be explained away by evolution. That shaking below your feet? That was Darwin rolling over in his grave.
